December 31 is declared a day off in Moscow for state employees

What about private companies and people in the regions?

Other companies can decide on their own, but the Mayor of Moscow recommended making this day a day off.

The President also recommended that Russia’s regions make their own decisions and promised that a Federal Law would be adopted in the coming years.

Thus, according to the current legislation, December 31, 2020, is a working day. After adopting the Federal Law, December 31 will officially become a holiday for the whole country.

The New Year holidays in 2021 will last from the 1st to the 10th of January. This period includes two public holidays, New Year — on January 1, and Orthodox Christmas — on January 7.
